Wisdom tooth removal is a common dental procedure in which one or more of the third molars, known as wisdom teeth, are extracted. These teeth typically emerge in late adolescence or early adulthood, but they can cause problems due to lack of space in the mouth, improper alignment, or impaction (when the teeth are trapped beneath the gum line).
Wisdom tooth removal is often recommended when these teeth pose a risk for infection, tooth decay, gum disease, or misalignment of surrounding teeth. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the case.
After the removal, patients may experience some swelling and discomfort, but these symptoms generally subside within a few days. Removing wisdom teeth can help prevent future oral health complications and improve overall dental alignment. While we are not able to perform all cases, there are a lot that we are capable of completing in the office.
