Periodontal surgeries, including crown lengthening, osseous surgery, and gingival grafts, are effective treatments for addressing a variety of gum and bone-related issues, ultimately improving both oral health and appearance. Crown lengthening involves reshaping the gum tissue and sometimes the underlying bone to expose more of a tooth's surface, which is often necessary for placing crowns or to improve the symmetry of a smile. Osseous surgery is performed to treat advanced gum disease by removing infected tissue and reshaping the bone around the teeth, helping to restore gum health, prevent further deterioration, and improve the tooth's support structure. Gingival grafts, or gum grafts, are used to restore gum tissue that has receded, either due to gum disease or aging, by transplanting healthy tissue to cover exposed tooth roots. These procedures not only help to reduce the risk of further gum recession and tooth sensitivity but also enhance the aesthetics of the smile, restore proper tooth function, and prevent tooth loss. For patients, the benefits of periodontal surgery are significant, offering both improved oral health and long-term protection against the complications of untreated periodontal disease.
